Areas of Study: Architecture
Program Description:

Architecture studio courses are offered at Temple University's campuses in Rome and Japan.

Terms Available:
Temple Rome offers Architecture studio courses (Arch 3234/8234) in the Fall semesters only.
Temple Japan offers Architecture studio courses (Arch 3233/8233) in the Spring semesters only.

Both campus programs feature:
  • A 6-credit design studio course.
  • Additional Architecture-focused seminar classes.
  • Frequent site visits and guest lecturers to give students deeper understandings of architectural history and the discipline at work in their host country.
  • For credit internships.
Non-Temple Student Applications:
Non-Temple students interested in pursuing the architecture studio courses at Temple Rome or Temple Japan should apply to their specific program and term of interest, and should not use the Temple Rome/Japan Architecture Programs application. Non-Temple architecture applications for Temple Rome Fall terms are due April 1; applications for the Temple Japan Spring terms are due October 1.

Temple Student Application Process:
Temple students who wish to participate in an architecture studio course abroad should use the Temple Rome/Japan Architecture Programs application. This application is used to review Temple student applications for both campuses, Temple University Japan (TUJ) and Temple University Rome (TUR). In the application, students indicate if they have a preference for one campus program over the other. Students may indicate no preference, if they are equally interested in studying at TUJ and TUR. After the deadline, all applications are reviewed as a group by the Education Abroad office and Tyler Architecture faculty. Students will be accepted to a specific campus and semester based on their application. While student preference will be taken into account, students may be placed in their second choice program in order to balance the cohorts between campuses and terms.

Temple Architecture Student Applications for Fall 2023 and Spring 2023 Due Date: June 15, 2022

Students who are architecture majors but do not intend to take studio courses abroad should not use the Temple Rome/Japan Architecture Programs application to apply for a study abroad program, instead they may apply through the semester/summer applications available for their specific program of interest.

Accepted Students:
After application review, if accepted, an Education Abroad program manager will open a new application for the student's accepted program and term (ex. Temple Rome Fall 2022). The Temple Rome/Japan Architecture Programs application is not used for any post-acceptance materials. Students will use their new program and term-specific accepted application for all post-decision material submissions, and will work with their assigned program manager for the remainder of the pre-departure process.
